Description

Both the root and leaves contain a gummy substance called mucilage. When mixed with water, it forms a slick gel that, historically, has been used to coat the throat and stomach to reduce irritation in humans.
Note: Mucilage in slippery elm can decrease how much medicine the body absorbs by acting as barrier. Take one hour after ingested medicines.
