A note on this product
I have recently switched from the pure Vanilla Absolute to a Vanilla Oleoresin which is a beautifully rich, sweet extract that delivers the warm, familiar vanilla aroma that animals know and love, at a much more accessible price point. The oleoresin is actually the form most commonly selected through self-selection, making it the more practical and effective choice for working with your animals.
The Plant
Vanilla planifolia is a species of vanilla orchid native to Mexico and Central America, now widely cultivated across Madagascar, which produces over 80% of the world’s vanilla supply. The vanilla plant is a climbing orchid that can grow up to 30 metres in length, producing delicate pale yellow-green flowers that bloom for just a single day.
Farmers harvest the pods while still unripe and cure them for up to six months before they develop their characteristic rich, sweet aroma. Our oleoresin is sourced from a French family of growers living and working in Madagascar, who have dedicated their lives to producing vanilla of exceptional quality. The absolute is purchased at a 20x concentration and carefully reconstituted by our supplier over approximately three months into a rich, sweet oleoresin using fractionated coconut oil, producing the beautiful familiar vanilla aroma we all know and love.
