Frankincense is harvested from the Boswellia tree, a small, hardy tree native to the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. The resin is obtained by making incisions in the bark, allowing the sap to bleed out and harden into the familiar amber-coloured tears. Frankincense essential oil was found in King Tutankhamen’s tomb, dating back to 1323 BC, making it one of the oldest recorded aromatics in human history.
